Co-operative Bank Brings Financial Empowerment to Mount Kenya University

(Nairobi) – Co-operative Bank of Kenya, in partnership with Kampus Wave and TV47, has brought its financial empowerment initiative to Mount Kenya University (MKU) in a bid to promote youth financial literacy. The program, which targets young people aged 18 to 35, is centered around the bank’s Young Ennovators Account (YEA) — a mobile banking service designed to help youths manage their finances with ease.

The YEA offers a range of banking services, including money transfers, payments, and more, all available through mobile banking. The registration process is simple, requiring users to dial *667# or download the YEA app from the Google Play Store. This initiative is designed to help young people take control of their financial future by offering an easy-to-use, accessible platform for managing their money.

In addition to the digital banking services, TV47, in collaboration with Co-operative Bank, has been touring various institutions, including Kisumu National Polytechnic, Kisii National Polytechnic, Technical University of Mombasa, Chuka University, and Eldoret National Polytechnic. On November 8th, the campaign made its stop at Mount Kenya University, where students were engaged in discussions on how to turn their passions into profitable ventures.

The event was not just about promoting banking services, but also about fostering financial literacy among young people. Youths were encouraged to learn business skills and gain knowledge on how to manage their finances effectively. Popular influencers, including Scar Mkadinali, were on hand to energize the crowd and add excitement to the event. The goal was to inspire students to embrace financial independence, with an emphasis on learning and applying business principles that could help them succeed in today’s competitive world.

The YEA account offers several attractive features, such as zero minimum balance for both opening and operating accounts. A debit card can be obtained for a fee of Ksh 600, and account holders enjoy discounted rates on bank cheques for fee payments. The account also boasts new and improved online banking features, making it easier for young people to manage their finances on the go.

To open a YEA account, prospective customers need to provide an original ID card and a copy, along with a copy of their KRA PIN. The process is straightforward, and with the convenience of mobile banking, it provides a hassle-free way for youth to take charge of their financial journey.
