(Nairobi) – The Kenyan government has confirmed the successful evacuation of 39 more Kenyans from Lebanon, where intense conflict between Israel and Hezbollah continues to escalate. This move follows an earlier evacuation of 55 Kenyans earlier this month, and more evacuations are expected to take place in the coming days.
The 39 Kenyans, who had been in Lebanon amidst the ongoing violence, were evacuated with the assistance of a multi-agency team led by Margaret Wamoto. They boarded their flight from Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport after receiving counseling services from the team.
Upon arrival at Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the evacuees were greeted by government officials from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, as well as their family and friends.
This evacuation is part of a broader effort by the Kenyan government to protect its citizens abroad, especially in conflict zones. The government has emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the welfare and rights of Kenyans living overseas, ensuring that those who wish to return home are supported.
The hostilities between Lebanon and Israel have intensified in recent weeks, as Israel conducts ground and air operations targeting Hezbollah operatives. These actions have resulted in significant casualties and displacement of people.
Currently, more than 7,000 Kenyans are stranded in Lebanon, many of whom have already registered for evacuation. The government has pledged to continue facilitating the return of its citizens, prioritizing those who have expressed the desire to return home.
