Kenyan Government Launches Nationwide Recruitment for Overseas Jobs

(Machakos) – The Kenyan government has announced a nationwide recruitment drive to select skilled youths from all 47 counties for overseas job opportunities. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in collaboration with the Technical, Vocational Education, and Training (TVET) sector, aims to address the growing demand for skilled workers in international markets.

Dr. Esther Muoria, the TVET Principal Secretary, revealed the recruitment process would begin on November 20, 2024, in Machakos County, before moving to Makueni on November 21 and Kitui on November 22. Nakuru and Baringo will follow, with the program expected to cover all counties in the coming months. Selected TVET institutions and county headquarters will host the recruitment activities.

Speaking at Masinga Technical and Vocational College in Machakos, Dr. Muoria encouraged skilled youth to take advantage of this opportunity and attend the recruitment sessions. She emphasized the importance of being prepared to demonstrate their skills and bring necessary documentation.

“This is a great opportunity for our young people. I urge them to avail themselves and showcase their skills,” Dr. Muoria said.

She highlighted the role of skilled labor in driving industrialization and economic growth. “Investors worldwide are seeking skilled workers to complement their resources, machinery, and markets,” she added.

Dr. Muoria also urged youth to enroll in TVET institutions, noting that they are equipped to provide the necessary skills to meet the demands of competitive job markets locally and abroad.

The announcement follows an earlier briefing by Dr. Alfred Mutua, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, in Kisumu. Dr. Mutua outlined the requirements for applicants, including bringing their National Identification Cards and preparing relevant documents.

To streamline the process, Certificates of Good Conduct will be issued on-site, and immigration officials will assist applicants with passport processing.
