1,500 Delegates to Attend Tanzania’s Mining Conference

(Dar es Salaam) – Over 1,500 participants, including global leaders and investors in the mining sector, will gather in Tanzania for a three-day conference focused on transforming the mining industry.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan will inaugurate the Sixth Tanzania International Mining Investment Conference on November 19, 2024, in Dar es Salaam. The event, running until November 21, 2024, will bring together a wide range of participants, including mining ministers from Africa, top executives from leading global mining companies, researchers, ambassadors, and various stakeholders in the mining sector.

Waziri wa Madini, Anthony Mavunde, highlighted that participants include representatives from prominent mining firms such as Barrick Gold, AngloGold Ashanti, Life Zone Metals, Shanta Gold, Eco Graph, Faru Graphite, Helium One, Lindi Jumbo, and Sotta Mining. Other attendees include Tanzanian ambassadors, foreign diplomats, financial institutions, universities, public and private institutions, and government officials from across the country.

The conference will feature discussions on eight key topics, led by 55 experts—20 from international organizations and 35 from within Tanzania. Topics will include challenges in value addition for minerals, investment opportunities, funding strategies for the mining sector, and the promotion of strategic minerals. Special focus will be placed on technological advancements in artisanal mining, women and youth participation, sustainable mining practices, and environmental conservation.

Minister Mavunde emphasized the significance of this year’s theme, “Value Addition in Mining for Economic and Social Development,” underlining efforts to ensure the country’s mineral wealth benefits Tanzanians economically and socially. For the first time, the conference will expand its scope beyond gemstones to showcase industrial and construction minerals, highlighting their everyday economic importance.

The event aims to not only attract investments but also strengthen collaboration among stakeholders, enhance mineral production, and position Tanzania as a leader in responsible mining. The presence of prominent industry players and expert discussions is expected to shed light on untapped opportunities and strategic measures for the sector’s growth.

The conference will be opened by President Samia on November 19, 2024, and concluded by Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Mwinyi on November 21, 2024, marking a pivotal moment for Tanzania’s mining sector and its role in global markets.
