Uasin Gishu and India Sign Historic Pact to Drive Investment

(Eldoret) – Uasin Gishu County Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the India-Kenya Business Council on Wednesday to create a foundation for transformative investment and mutual economic development. The agreement, signed in Eldoret with Indian High Commissioner Namgya Khampa and Governor Jonathan Bii in attendance, opens opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and technological exchange between the two communities.

Governor Jonathan Bii noted that this agreement marks a strategic alliance that will benefit Uasin Gishu County through economic growth, job creation, and knowledge sharing. Dr. Bii emphasized that the partnership is intended to position Uasin Gishu as a leading center for investment and innovation, leveraging both local resources and Indian expertise.

According to Governor Bii, the local business community has already contributed significantly to the county’s GDP growth, which has risen from five percent to nine percent. He highlighted several areas open for investment, including dairy products, healthcare (especially diagnostics), agriculture, tourism, sports, and trade. These sectors, he explained, offer promising opportunities for international investors to make a meaningful impact.

The governor also expressed confidence that this MOU would enable Uasin Gishu to attract sustainable, long-term investments, ultimately supporting ongoing development and prosperity for the county’s residents.

Indian High Commissioner Namgya Khampa described the signing as a significant milestone, noting that it is the first agreement of its kind with Uasin Gishu County. The High Commissioner emphasized India’s recognition of Uasin Gishu’s economic potential and confirmed India’s readiness to support and encourage Indian investors to explore the opportunities the county offers.
