(Murang’a) – The Murang’a County Government has launched a land digitization initiative to streamline land transactions, secure property records, and curb irregularities in land ownership and transfers.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the administration announced its plan to automate all land records for plots in urban and market areas. This initiative will apply specifically to individuals with allotment letters or leases issued by the county, excluding owners of freehold rural land.
The notice clarified, “Free rural landowners will not be required to participate in the automation exercise, as it is designed for individuals holding allotment letters, leases, or similar documents in urban and market areas.”
To support the project, the county government has scheduled a verification process for affected residents. Plot owners are required to visit their respective sub-county offices on December 5 to confirm the accuracy of their records.
During the verification process, residents must present their identification cards, copies of lease agreements, and allotment letters. Those with incomplete documents have been advised to use a hotline provided by the county or seek assistance at their sub-county offices.
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata emphasized that digitizing land records will speed up documentation processes, improve efficiency, and reduce risks like record loss and manual errors.
